encaustic painting

Beeswax mixed with resin and pigment, a favorite medium of mine, was used during the time of the Egyptians to decorate and preserve their mummy cases from moisture. Truly an ancient art, encaustics are seeing a revival in the artist community. I mix my own medium and work hour upon hour to complete even a small 6" x 6" painting as I apply the wax, fuse it, apply more always in a painterly way, scrape it, incise it, maybe imbed something, and continue until the painting is finished to my liking.
